There is a concerted effort to change the attitudes of the world and of Christians specifically about standards of right and wrong. We are being challenged to accept homosexuality and all forms of sexual immorality as an acceptable lifestyle. I have no personal animosity toward those who choose to be homosexual, and have no desire to prevent any person from their rights to make their own choices or to have whatever benefits may come with their jobs. But I cannot take a stand in favor or that lifestyle and be consistent with the oracles (statements, utterances) of God. Peter wrote: “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (I Peter 4:11). As a Christian I am limited by God’s word to what He has delivered. If God says that homosexuality is sin, then it is sin regardless of what the world may say. And sin that is not forgiven will keep us from heaven. It doesn’t really matter what the world may say about anything, those who want to go to heaven must consider and accept God’s standards. Only those who obey Him will be saved.
How presumptuous we are when we think we know better than God about what is right or wrong. Paul wrote to the Romans: “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?” 35 “Or who has first given to Him and it shall be repaid to him?” 36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:34-36) God did not ask us to decide what should be considered right and wrong, for He had decided that long ago.
Each of us must decide who we will serve. Joshua called upon Israel to choose who they would serve and declared that he and his family would serve the Lord (Joshua 24:14-15). Paul wrote to the Romans that we are the servants of whomever we choose to obey: “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16). Do I choose to do things my own way (following Satan) or do I choose to obey God? You do have the right to choose, but you also have to live with the consequences of your choices. One leads to death, the other leads to life. My choice is to obey God, and that means that I must say what God says about all kinds of sexual immorality, including homosexuality. To do otherwise is to be accursed of God as we read in the letter to the Galatians: “9As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:9). I can only teach what God has revealed through the Holy Spirit.
